"70 Is the span of man's years and 80 if he is strong".
(Psalm 90)
My Mother died on August 11, 1962 at the age of 70.
My Dad died on August 10, 1968 at the age of 80.
I was with my Mother when she died. She was praying the
Rosary with us as she left this world.
The last thing my Dad said to me at the Greater Pittsburgh
Airport as we were about to depart for Papua New Guinea on
October 23, 1966 was: "Brother (he always used to call me
‘Brother’), I probably won't be here when you come back from
the missions."
He was right; he was dead right; He was dead within two
years. Like Mom, Dad too was buried in the Franciscan
Habit, since they both had been faithful members of the
Third Order of Saint Francis (Secular Franciscans) their
entire married life.
The Franciscan Coat of Arms stands out prominently on their
unique tombstone in Saint Cecilia's Cemetery, Rochester,
Pennsylvania.
